Why is naked pronounced like it is and not like raked?

U know this has to be one of the best questions on answers and I'm not kidding. My best answer would be because english is not a phonetic language like spanish for example. In spanish words are pronounced exactly like they look with no silent letters and all the other fuckery that makes english so difficult. So this question would be like asking why is thought. Pronounced the way it is. Its because many words in english are not pronounced the way they look.
